Hexagon Handle Router Template

Method 1: Place the template on your wood and trace around it with a thick marker. Once marked, cut just outside the line using a jigsaw or bandsaw.

OR

Method 2: Go full rebel — stick the template down securely and cut as close to the template as you can, without nicking it. This method is best left to more experienced users, as one slip can turn a good day in the workshop into a cuss-fest.

THEN

Use double stick tape that is removable or use the masking tape and super-glue method, once stuck run a flush trim or pattern bit around the edge, and you’ve got a perfectly shaped board ready for minimal sanding and finishing. The templates are reusable and are suited to small shops and home workshops where consistency matters and time is money (or at least more for wood).

NB.

• Cutting as close to the line as possible helps make sure your router bit doesn’t grab too much wood — otherwise your fun little project could turn into a projectile. And keep your fingers well away from that spinning bit — trust me, you look a lot better with all your fingers still attached.
• Secure your workpiece with clamps or jigs so it can’t shift while routing.
• With a handheld router, you move the router counter-clockwise around the outside edge of the frame and clockwise around the inside edge.
• On a router table the principle is the same, but now the router is fixed and you move the workpiece instead of the bit, rotating it counter-clockwise for the outside edge and clockwise for the inside edge.
